After last weeks disappointing last grasp loss to Taringa, and some indifferent form over a few weeks, Westside came up against top 4 team UQ needing to get back on track. Westside did exactly that.
The first half got underway in very wet, rainy conditions, with Westside combining well early, playing a crisp, fast passing game which has been missing of late. UQ looked dangerous on the counter playing diagonal through balls to deep runners from the mids, which Westside did well to contain. Westside had a good share of possession and began to exert some pressure towards the end of the half. This pressure eventuated in a goal from a bullet header from Shak from an excellent Liam corner kick. Westside could have grabbed another but missed with an empty goal beckoning. 1-0 at halftime, with the boys happy to get to the sheds leading and to get out of the rain!
The second half saw Westside dominate the game, playing largely in UQ's half for the first 20 minutes. Good interchanges of passing and movement saw several chances created. Westside were 2-0 up after a free kick on the corner of the box was whipped in by Scott which Clarence knocked in at the back post. UQ went looking for goals soon after, putting some pressure on, but the 4 defenders and Ryan were equal to the task. Ryan in particular pulled off some good saves, which instilled confidence in the backline. Westside grabbed another goal on the break with 10 to go after a through ball saw Jordan break away, hold off a defender and smash home from outside the box. Excellent goal.
3-0 the final score.
Westside is now hopefully back on track, but with a huge fixture looming after the coming week off, against runaway league leaders Holland Park. Hopefully we can turn up and get a clean sweep of wins against them.
Special mentions:
•Great team performance, excellent passing and composure
•Shak, Clarence and Jordan getting amongst the goals
•First clean sheet in a while
Also a shoutout to our supporters and readers around the world- including cele pablo solano and family in Argentina, the boys in Ghana, Indonesia, Korea, Broome, Adelaide and Samford.
