Westside FC 3 - 0 Redcliffe PCYC
Westside bounced back to winning ways with a hard fought but convincing 3-0 victory over fellow mid-table team Redcliffe, doing the league double over them this year. Westside entered the game still low on troops and coming off a loss, and started the game slowly, in a different 4-4-2 formation. As the first half wore on Westside started to look more comfortable and started to make some chances, after Redcliffe had arguably had the better of the first 10 minutes. After a good spell of passing in the final third, but without getting a shot away, Cunzie received the ball just inside the box, spun and struck a low shot which beat the keeper home. An unexpected shot but a terrific goal. 1-0 Westside. This goal and an unusual first half lead seemed to give the home side confidence, and Westside entered the halt time break on top, with the midfield starting to fire and the defence turning away any attacks.
The second half hung in the balance for the first 25 minutes, with Redcliffe looking to break on the counter and creating a few half chances to keep Westside defence on their toes, and Westside being unable to find a second. It took a wonder free kick from Bevan for Westside to extend the lead. magic, 2-0 lead. From here Westside never looked threatened and kicked on for more goals. Cannon was rewarded for a tireless and gutsy midfield effort with a volleyed goal threading through a crowd of legs and beating the keeper. The full time score 3-0 with a great team performance, goals and a clean sheet capping of a great night for Westside.
