Westisde FC 1 - 1 Uni of Queensland

Friday 2nd July 2010

Grovely Sports Ground, Hanran St,

Keperra (Candlestick Park)

Uni entered this match flying high in the league and armed with the knowledge that they easily dispatched of Westside earlier in the season. However, in the Westside camp there has been a growing confidence of late based on some promising results.

The visitors started confidently, clearly marking their attentions to not only gain 3 points, but to do it by playing attractive football. The opening 10 minutes saw Westside pinned into their own half, but they rode the storm and slowly began to claw their way into the match.

The match now flowed from one end to the other, with Westside giving as good as they got. However on 25 minutes it looked like the home sides luck may have run out, as the visitors took the lead. But Westside weren't about to lie down and almost straight form the restart they were back in the match as Michael Bonshek lifted the ball over the advancing Uni keeper to level the scores.

The second half provided more of the same with Uni growing increasingly desperate for that illusive winner. 15 minutes from time they thought they had it as the ball fired into the Westside net, however after consultation with his linesman the referee ruled that the Uni Striker had handled the ball in the process - the goal was disallowed and Westside hung on for a hard earned point.
