ABOUT THE CLUB

WESTSIDE EXPANDS IN 2010: 1st March 2010
Westside is seeing the benefits of our off-season marketting and player development initiatives.  The club is aiming to expand in all directions over the next few years and the growth that we have seen in 2010 is evidence of our commitment to providing player pathways well into the future.  Not only have we experienced an increase in player numbers across all age groups the club has also branched out to the following areas:
  • Commencment of the 'Squirts' program for 3 - 5 year olds.  We were overwhelmed with the level of interest and we are now unable to take more registrations due to the high numbers.  Click here for more info on the 'Squirts' program.
  • Under 13 all-girls team has been formed creating a pathway for our female players. Click here for more information about the girls team.
  • Top Seniors sides promoted to Metro 1 and Metro 1 Reserves.
  • Womens team established.  Click here for more info.
  • Growth in player numbers in under 6 to 10 years.  Local hub competition with neighbouring clubs to continue.  Players in these age groups will play in brand new jerseys in 2010.
  • Youth Team formed to provide direct pathway for under 16 players through to Senior teams.
  • Ongoing submissions of funding grant applications to improve club facilities.
  • Coach education and support.
  • Establishment of second full size feld.
Westside continues to pride iteself on its 'small club' family values, giving personalised attention to every player.  Whilst maintaining these values our aim is to expand over the next few years creating development pathways for both social and talented players.

Westside Football Club is a Football (soccer) club located at the Grovely Sports Grounds in Keperra (directly behind Grovely Primary School).  We are within the Hills District of North Brisbane surrounded by the suburbs of Grovely, Arana Hills, Keperra, Mitchelton, Ferny Grove and Ferny Hills.  We have a proud club history spanning over 45 years.  We provide a family atmosphere and our emphasis is on club spirit and partnerships with the community.  We strive to create a pathway from juniors through to seniors. We have under 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10yrs teams playing in local hub Small Sided Football (SSF) competitions with neighouring clubs and our under 11 to under 16yrs teams play in the official Football Brisbane competition. Our Mens teams compete in Youth (Under 18), Metro 1, Metro Reserves and Metro 5 and we also have an over 35s team competing in the Queensland Lions Competition.  We now also have a womens team which was formed at the beginning of the 2010 season.

CLUB HISTORY:

Westside was established in 1964 and was first known as 'Budapest Grovely'.   The club's colours (red, green and white) are based on the Hungarian national flag.

The club grew from strength to strength and a number of years later officially changed it's name to Westside Sports Club as the emphasis changed from being an ethnic club to a club that provided sporting opportunites for the whole community.  The club's main focus is now Football (soccer).  At the Annual General Meeting on the 16th November 2009 the club name was changed to Westside Football Club.  The club constitution is available here.

TODAY:
Community spirit, friendship, family and teamwork are the underlying principles of Westside Football Club. We are a small yet thriving club that focuses on the development of Football for all age groups from our under 6s through to our senior mens and womens teams. Our clubhouse and grounds are located in the Grovely Sports Grounds surrounded by the Brisbane North suburbs of Keperra, Mitchelton, Arana Hills, Ferny Hills and Ferny Grove. We are a member of the Arana Sports Association. Westside is committed to the development of junior Football and the new Small Sided Games format has been embraced. We offer development opportunities for our coaches, excellent playing facilities and access to training equipment so that our junior players can progress through to the competition age groups. Westside's development plan is centred around growth and retention of players. There are also plans in place to improve facilities and to obtain more equipment and resources.
