OPTUS SSF KITS A
REAL HIT WITH KIDS: The first 15 under 6 and
7 year old players to register during sign-on weekend received an Optus Small
Sided Football kit containing a shirt, ball and bag pack. You couldn't wipe the
small from their faces!
 Under 6 player, Ben
McErlean, with his Optus SSF kit on sign-on
day.

Benefits of Small-Sided
Football: • more
touches of the ball •
more shots on goal •
repeated decision-making experience • the ball is in play far more often • the emphasis is on player
development rather than winning or losing • more 1 v 1 attacking situations • the game is easier to
understand • freedom
of expression – no positions in early stages • less perceived stress on the
players • less
perceived pressure from coaches and parents • parents more likely to volunteer for Small-Sided Football
game leader roles •
children enjoy the progressive and sequential game
formats.

CLUB GRADING
POLICY Westside adheres to Football
Brisbane policy regarding grading of junior players. Players in under 6, 7, 8,
and 9 age groups ARE NOT GRADED. Players are allocated into teams according to
available numbers. In 2011 players in the under 10 and 11 yrs will be allocated into teams
according to the Football Brisbane 'Gecko' - 'Goanna'- 'Komodo Dragon' system. The aim of the
club is to create 'like skilled' teams with even numbers and with an even mix of
boys and girls. The club will attempt to cater for children who wish to remain
in teams with friends / siblings however final numbers will determine team
allocation. All age groups train at the
same time so that there is greater communication between coaches and more social
interaction between the players. This has been of great benefit for the under 6,
7 and 8 years age groups as the players and coaches have supported each other by
combining during training when one coach is unavailable or when small numbers
arrive at training. Teams have a greater club focus and are seen as an age group
rather than individual teams. Teams also supply players to each other on game
day when teams are short.
Grading will apply in competition age groups (under 12 and
above) if there are sufficient numbers to form more than one team in each age
group. There may be the need to merge age groups if there are limited numbers. Players can only
play UP an age group.
